Binarong - Bohol Blades - Philippines

  • $ 20000

The Binarong is Bohol Blades' version of a classic sundang.  This historic utility blade evolved from a farmer's tool to a war weapon, back to a cutting tool again.  Great for agriculture or self defense, this Binarong can withstand abuse while still maintaining its classic premium look.

During Team KIL's recent weapons expedition in the Philippines, we traveled back to Bohol Blades, the world renown bladesmiths in the town of Sikatuna on the island of Bohol.  We got to hang out with Cid Cempron again, learning more about their traditional weapons as we helped grind blades in his jungle forge.

Bohol Blades makes an impressive variety of native Filipino knives and swords.  The wide range of blade shapes are forged from primary leaf spring steel.  The handles, made from carabao horns, are ergonomically designed for a steadfast grip.  All the blades are sheathed in scabbards made from locally sourced balayong hardwood.  These knives were made to be used, and made to be used for a long long time.

These blades are individually forged by local Filipino bladesmiths.  They have a long and storied tradition of using salvaged materials and antiquated machines to create working agricultural blades that can also be used as weapons.  There may be slight imperfections in these blades that reflect this rustic jungle culture.  According to the craftsmen, these are not considered flaws because each blade is still capable of performing its intended function.
