Antique Filipino Manoplas
These antique Manoplas illustrate the original design for Filipino Brass Knuckles. Unlike the modern style with individual finger holes, these traditional Filipino Manoplas allow for a more versatile grip, which is essential for the fluid transitions in styles like Suntukan or Panantukan. You can also tell by this classic design that Manoplas were not just meant for punching; they were used for hammering, hooking, parrying, and scraping as well.
Team KIL came across these Filipino Manoplas in a cramped antique shop during their latest weapons expedition in the Philippines. These brass Manoplas are over 100 years old, and belonged to the shop-owner's ancestors. The markings on these are typical of the Southern Philippines, particularly those from Moro or Manobo traditions.
Both Antique Filipino Manoplas weigh 8 ounces. Each Manoplas is 4-inches wide, 3-inches deep, and can fit a 3-inch wide hand grip (made for thinner Filipino hands). The red Manoplas has a slightly thicker wrap on its handle.
