The Olympia coincides with Sumo Dan's birthday this year.  Come train sumo with Dan on his birthday, Friday, September 25th.  Then compete for Olympia Sumo Gold on Saturday, September 26th!!!

***Weigh-Ins***

We are still arranging dates, times, and locations for weigh-ins.  We try to get athletes weighed in as soon as they are in town and ready.

***Weight Classes***

Lightweight Men: <85 kg

Middleweight Men: <100 kg

Light-Heavyweight Men: <115 kg

Heavyweight Men: >115 kg

***(Due to lack of participation, we will not be having competitive women's divisions this year.  All women athletes are welcome to participate on Friday for sumo training and exhibition brackets.)***

***Openweight***

The Openweight will be limited to a 32-Man Double Elimination Bracket.  If we have more than 32 athletes wanting to compete in Openweight, we will hold single elimination matches for some athletes to secure a spot in the bracket.

***Competition Attire***

All athletes must wear a clean, properly tied mawashi.

Men: traditional attire (mawashi only) is preferred.  We will allow men to wear a pair of skin-tight, over the knee, BLACK shorts underneath the mawashi. (no large corporate logos; country ID or team logos okay).  Also, there must be no gap between the waistband of the shorts and the bottom of your mawashi.

(Men competing in the Openweight division will not be allowed wear shorts.)

(No jewelry is allowed.  If you have facial jewelry that cannot be removed, they must be covered by athletic tape.)

 ***Tournament Format***

We plan on using a double elimination format to determine winners: (1 loss - you are still able to win the championship, 2 losses - you are out of the tournament) 

Each athlete will be guaranteed a minimum of 2 tournament matches in their weighted class.

***Open Dohyo***

On Friday, we plan to have the dohyo open for training and exhibition tournament brackets.  You should have many opportunities for challenge matches.

***Spectators***

Anyone with a pass to the Olympia Expo will be able to watch Sumo Dan's Olympia Sumo Championship and every other strength sport competition at the Olympia Expo.
